According to data on average wages for May 2024, the average wage for May amounted to 138,332 dinars, which is 100,170 dinars net. This represents an increase compared to the average wages for the same month of the previous year, when the average gross wage was 118,992 dinars (net 86,220 dinars), indicating a nominal increase of 16.3% and a real increase of 9.5%. The median net salary for May 2024 is 77,571 dinars, which means that 50% of employees earned this amount.
Salary is one of the most important and fundamental rights of employees in employment and consists of compensation for work performed and time spent at work, compensation based on the employee’s contribution to the employer’s business success (awards, bonuses, etc.), and other income based on employment, in accordance with the general act and employment contract.
Compensation for work performed and time spent at work by law has a mandatory structure and consists of:
- Basic salary – represents the fixed part of the salary and as such must be expressed in the employment contract in a fixed amount,
- Part of the salary for work performance – represents the variable part of the salary, determined based on the quality and volume of work performed and the employee’s attitude towards work obligations, and depending on work results, it can be paid in a smaller or larger amount or not at all, and
- Increased salary – represents the part of the salary that results from increases in accordance with the Labor Law.
Accordingly, employers are given the possibility to determine salaries in different amounts for employees in the same positions through variable elements of the salary, depending on success, efficiency in fulfilling work tasks, and discipline, while respecting the imperative rules of the Labor Law.
