The Government of the Republic of Serbia has issued Conclusion No. 05 330-1473/2025, instructing the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management and the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade, as the competent authorities for market placement and quality and food safety control, to strengthen inspections of honey, milk and dairy products, wine, and strong alcoholic beverages (“food products”).

According to the Government’s statement, this Conclusion aims to support domestic production and enhance consumer safety, acknowledging that the State Audit Institution pointed out deficiencies in food safety, including food fraud, in its 2023 report.

The measures include:

  • Enhanced market inspections within the Republic of Serbia, as well as monitoring of shipments at border crossings during import and export,
  • Quality and authenticity control of food products,
  • Engagement of domestic accredited laboratories in the process of verifying authenticity and detecting food fraud,
  • Cooperation with international institutions to prevent cross-border trade of non-compliant food products.
