A New Era in Road Maintenance: Economical, Ecological, and Efficient Solutions for Preserving Natural Resources!
The Regulation on the Use of Milled Asphalt in the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Public Roads (“Official Gazette of RS,” No. 92/2024) has been published, introducing significant changes in the management of this valuable resource and promoting the principles of circular economy in infrastructure.
What Does the New Regulation Bring?
- Efficient Utilization of Milled Asphalt: Material removed from road surfaces, consisting of up to 97% stone, must now be used in the production of new asphalt mixtures—at least 25% must come from milled asphalt from the same road.
- Waste Reduction: Remaining milled asphalt not used in reconstruction will be managed in accordance with waste management regulations.
- Preservation of Natural Resources: Reducing the exploitation of natural stone helps protect surface and groundwater, lowers the environmental footprint, and safeguards biodiversity.
The implementation of these measures not only reduces costs and environmental impact but also ensures faster and more sustainable road maintenance across Serbia.
